Q.  Can I just turn up and pay to go on a tour?

A.  Unfortunately no.  In order for us to comply with Private Hire Vehicle Licensing Laws all tours must be booked and paid for in advance.

Q.  Do you provide accommodation?

A.  No. Historic Battlefield Tours do not provide or recommend accommodation. A list of hotels, bed and breakfast providers and hostels can be found by typing 'Hotels in Stirling' into your search engine. This will allow you to dictate your type of accommodation and costs, not us.

Q.  Do you provide transport to and from the pick up/drop off point?

A.  As a rule of thumb, no. However, if all passengers on the trip are staying at the same accommodation or you are booked on a Private Tour then the pick up and drop off point can be changed to that location. Otherwise transport to and from the pick up and drop off point are your responsibility. Alternative pick up points from central locations in Glasgow or Edinburgh may be available (subject to a £10 per person surcharge) depending on what days you would like to take the trip. To see if these are available for the tour you would like to take please contact us.

A.  Unless you are part of a large group booking each tour will be restricted to a maximum of eight people, this is to ensure that you get the most out of your experience with us.

Q.  Can I book a Private Tour?

A.  Yes.  We are able to provide Private Tours in which the only people on your tour will be the the people you want to bring along.  If you wish to book a Private Tour we will be able to arrange the pick up and drop off points to suit you.  Please note, however, that unless there are a minimum of four people on your Private Tour a surcharge of £25 per person will need to be added.

Q.  What if I want to book for a group with more than 8 people?

A.  Simply contact us and let us know your requirements. We'll send you an information pack on large group bookings and what we can do to accommodate you and your group.

Q.  Are discounts available for larger groups?

A.  If your group consists of more than 8 people then discounts in the advertised prices will be available.

Q.  What about lunch?

A.   Although we do not provide lunch the tours are planned so that at lunchtime there will be somewhere that you will be able to purchase something to eat.  If this isn't suitable or if you just prefer your own food you are more than welcome to bring a packed lunch along.

Q.  How fit do I need to be?

A.  By their very nature battlefield tours can involve walking over difficult terrain and given that the sites are in Scotland, climbing the odd small incline or two. So while you don't need to be fit enough to run a marathon you do need to be mindful that some physical exertion on your part will be required.

Q.  What should I wear?

A.  The weather in Scotland even in the height of Summer can be very changeable.  With this in mind you should ensure that you have a good pair of walking boots, a jumper or fleece jacket and a waterproof jacket and trousers to hand.

Q.  What should I bring?

A.  You are advised to bring a small backpack to ensure that any valuables you bring with you can be kept in your possession at all times.  Please note that Historic Battlefield Tours cannot be held liable for any personal belongings that are left in the transport or lost or stolen on your trip.

Q.  Smoking?

A.  Smoking is not permitted at any time on our vehicle; however, for those of you who do smoke, there are comfort breaks built into the tour which will allow you to have a cigarette etc.

Q.  Anything else I should know?

A.  If there are any questions you have that haven't been answered here then please get in touch. But there is one more important thing you should know about our tours and that is that we would advise you to bring an open mind.  Sometimes the things that we have all read and seen on the internet or on TV and the movies isn't quite correct and, especially in the cases of some of the battlefields you will visit, recent archaeological work has changed our understanding of them considerably.
